HISTORY OF MITSUBISHI
1870: Yataro Iwasaki (1834 – 1884), son of a Japanese rice-trader founded an own shipping company, called Tsukumo Shokai.
1875: Iwasaki changed the name of the company to Mitsubishi Steamer Co. Iwasaki used his own family crest, which showed three diamonds, and the crest of a fellow family of three oak leaves to develop his own company logo. “Mitsu” means three in Japanese, “bishi” is for diamond. The three diamonds that come together at a central point remained the Mitsubishi logo since 1914.
1917: From shipping and shipbuilding Mitsubishi moved into new fields. In 1917 Mitsubishi introduced its first motor car, Model A. The first model was 7-seated, framed with a four cylinder, 2.8-litre and 35 power gasoline engine.
1918: The first Mitsubishi truck, Model T-1 appeared.
1920: Its first locomotive followed the truck two years later.
1921: Just a year later Mitsubishi produced its aeroplane, Model MC-1.
1933: Mitsubishi introduced the fist submarine of the world, which could descend to 1000 metre.
1934: Mitsubishi’s first land rover, Model PX-33 4WD was introduced. The prototype had a 4390 cubic cm, 70 power, 6 cylinder diesel engine.
Mitsubishi-group with its more than 40 companies is one of the biggest and extended MNCs producing everything from ships and automobiles to space software. Among Mitsubishi companies there is the well-known Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, the famous Mitsubishi Electric producing electric, telecommunication and computer products and Nikon which is known of its cameras.

… Mitsubishi Heavy Industries developed a system similar to the ABS for the earthquake protection of the buildings.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporations’ creative engineers have been set an unbelieving pace in the development for the last three decades. Sophisticated motor technology, valves-gear control, firstly mechanical then electronic injection, direct gasoline injection (GDI system), all-wheel drive and all-wheel control, electronic motor and landing gear control system and last but not least high-level safety and environmental solutions show: Mitsubishi has committed itself to the production of front-rank automobiles.
